Strategies to Foster Safety, Inclusion and a Sense of Belonging for Jewish Students

Campuses across the country have seen increased antisemitism. In fact, antisemitism has increased by 700% when compared to the same period last year, according to Hillel International, and it includes incidents of hate speech, harassment, and acts of violence targeting Jewish students.

Join us on May 1, 2024 when our expert presenter – Farzana Nayani, a recognized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion specialist, executive coach, and keynote speaker – will help you discover strategies to foster safety, inclusion and a sense of belonging for Jewish students on your campus. You’ll engage in reflection activities, explore vivid examples of how this appears on campuses, and have opportunities to develop personalized strategies that work for you and your educational environment.

Jewish students are experiencing a lack of physical and emotional safety and mental health risk due to antisemitism. Many also feel unable to fully express themselves and their Jewish faith and/or heritage. They may also face exclusion and isolation, as well as the feeling of being unwelcome in certain campus spaces. Raise awareness and understanding about antisemitism from faculty, staff and other students so you can create a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Topics Covered

Gain crucial, actionable takeaways that will help you:

  • Implement comprehensive educational programs and workshops to raise awareness about the history and impact of antisemitism and promote understanding among the campus community.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity by creating safe spaces and support networks specifically for Jewish students, where they can connect, share experiences, and find solidarity.
  • Gather ideas for how to combat stereotypes and how to stop the spread of misinformation.
  • Collaborate with Jewish organizations and community leaders to provide resources, support, and advocacy for Jewish students on campus.
  • Strengthen partnerships with law enforcement and local authorities to ensure a swift and effective response to incidents of antisemitism, fostering a sense of security and deterrence.
  • Establish clear and accessible reporting mechanisms for incidents of antisemitism, ensuring that students feel safe and supported in reporting such incidents and that trust can be rebuilt with swift action taken after such incidents.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve campus climate by conducting regular surveys, seeking feedback from Jewish students, and implementing necessary changes to address their concerns and needs.
