PresenterPhotoNigel Harris currently serves as the Director of Programs and Facilities for the Department of Sports and Recreation at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.  He is also co-chair to the Division of Student Affairs Professional Development Committee, and he established and launched a New Employee Orientation program.

In this role he oversees the programs and facilities of the Student Recreation and Activities Center and Recreation Wellness Center.  In his position, he has administrative oversight of the facilities operations, reservations, aquatics, fitness, informal recreation, and student professional development.  

Before joining KSU, Nigel worked at The University of Texas at San Antonio as the Associate Director of Operations, Virginia Tech as the Assistant Director of Aquatics & Instructional Programs and at Georgia State University as the Aquatic Coordinator.  Nigel is originally from Atlanta and has a passion for teaching children to swim and preparing new professionals for their aspirational careers.  As an active member in the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA) since 2006, Nigel regularly facilitates presentations at state, regional and national conferences along with participate in a variety of mentorship programs.  Nigel was elected to the NIRSA Board of Directors in 2020 and leads the association with navigating the evolving landscape of collegiate recreation. 

In 2019, Nigel was selected to co-chair the Division of Student Affairs Professional Development Committee.  Leading the Professional Development Committee, Nigel coordinated and facilitated learning opportunities to enhance the professional and personal growth of the staff.  His notable accomplishments include launching a New Employee Orientation program, facilitating a yearlong supervisory series and cultivating a stronger sense of community and collaboration among staff across many departments.

He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems and his Master of Science in Sports Administration from Georgia State University.  In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, playing racquetball and spending time with his family.
