To encourage lifelong learning and make it accessible to people of all ages, a group called Profs and Pints is hosting lectures by professors and other experts throughout Washington, D.C. The talks take place in bars, restaurants, cafes and other locations, often on slow nights, with student tickets priced at $15 each. Topics range from folklore to animals, physics, philosophy and beyond.

“We have people who are turning away from expertise, they’ve turned away from education, and we’re seeing society kind of screwed up as a result of it,” Profs and Pints’ founder Peter Schmidt told WTOP News. “It’s really important to get people to keep learning and enjoy learning.”

Schmidt told the station that the program has sold over 85,000 tickets since beginning in D.C. He’s now expanding it to Iowa City, Nashville, Baltimore and Richmond while also looking for venues in cities like Ann Arbor, Detroit, Philadelphia and more.
