Before students descend on campus for a new semester, West Virginia University (WVU) is taking a moment to recognize and appreciate their Roads and Grounds labor team. A profile piece features personal information about each member, along with a photo, plus the kinds of work they participate in. It personalizes each employee and spotlights all they do for the campus community.

Operations manager Harrison Foy shares that the team’s responsibilities “go far beyond making the campus aesthetically pleasing and safe for employees, current and prospective students, and other visitors,” the piece explains. They also support large events like Commencement, participate in campuswide sanitation and recycling initiatives, move furniture and equipment, oversee pest control, do concrete work, work on snow and ice removal throughout close to 600 acres on three campuses, do on-site repairs and more.

Lead supervisor for the labor team, Charles “Chuck” Spitznogle, praises the employees’ job performance and work ethic. “The team works hard to maintain all three campuses, including the Animal Sciences Farm,” he told WVU Today. “They are detailed and careful in performing their jobs and they get the job done on time.”

It's important to appreciate the many staffers who make our campuses hum. Check out WVU’s profile here.
