Dr. Jame’l Hodges currently serves as the Vice President for Student Success & Engagement at Edward Waters University in Jacksonville, Florida.

His previous professional roles included serving in leadership positions at the Corporate Office of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; at the University of Georgia; California State Polytechnic University- Pomona; Lehigh University; The Association of Public Land Grant Universities, Tennessee State University; and most recently as the Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Engagement at Virginia State University.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Mass Communication from Virginia State University; his Masters of Science degree from Florida State University in Higher Education Administration and his Doctoral degree from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.

Dr. Hodges thoroughly enjoyed his HBCU experience and attributes much of his success to the foundation set forth while in college as a first-generation student. While in college, he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., served as an Orientation Leader, was a member of Viginia State University Men’s Track and Field Team and was the 7th Mr. Virginia State University. Through the years, he has served on numerous leadership committees and has remained an active member of both Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.

He was named Rookie of the year withing the Division of Student Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona, Greek Advisor of the Year through the Western Greek Leadership Conference, was a recipient of the Amelia Hammond Staff Council Scholarship in 2009 at Cal Poly Pomona, and in 2013 received the distinct honor of being added to the Hall of Achievement for Copiague Public Schools where he attended high school in Long Island, New York. In 2016 he was selected as a Maxine Smith Fellow for the Tennessee Board of Regents where he researched “Tennessee Promise: Changing the Mindset and Closing the Achievement Gap for African American Male student of TBR” and in February of 2024, he completed the Harvard Kennedy School, Executive Education Crisis Leadership in Higher Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

When he is not working, he makes time to present leadership development to colleges and universities under his self-made brand “JAMELEVATE” and is the proud father of Jaelon- also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and graduate of Virginia State University.
