Presenter Bio - Dr. Katie Burke
Dr. Katie G. Burke serves as the Assistant Vice President of Alumni and Community Engagement for Florida Atlantic University located in Boca Raton, Florida.
In her role, Katie is responsible for the overall direction and management of community engagement and alumni relations at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She is charged with offering counsel and leadership to the FAU Alumni Association, its staff and board. She engages alumni and friends in the life of FAU.
Prior to this role, she spent close to 15 years working at FAU, most recently as the Executive Director of New Student Transitions and Family Engagement. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Dean for the Weppner Center for Leadership Education & Development (LEAD) and Service Learning. During her tenure at FAU, she has held numerous leadership roles in New Student Orientation and Onboarding, Transfer Student Services, Family Engagement, Student Organizations, Civic Engagement and Service and the FAU Mentoring Project.
A lifelong Owl, Katie came to FAU as a first-generation student and received her undergraduate degree in criminal justice. She went on to complete two master’s degrees, as well as a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research methodology. Within FAU, Katie is a highly engaged staff mentor and serves as an associate graduate faculty member who teaches higher education leadership courses as well as University Honors Program courses.
She has published works and has presented at a variety of professional conferences.
