PresenterPhotoDr. Katie Burke currently serves as the Executive Director of New Student Transitions and Family Engagement at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.

Dr. Burke lives to inspire individuals to realize their potential. She demonstrates her values everyday while serving on the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Leadership Team and supporting many areas across FAU’s campuses – New Student Orientation and Onboarding, Transfer Student Services, Family Engagement, and the FAU Mentoring Project. She has held leadership roles in higher education all starting with a role advocating for the needs of graduate students with Student Government. Katie was the first Director of FAU’s Office of Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) which produced major events and programs on campus dedicated to investing in students to become change agents.  She championed the Leadership Studies Minor along with faculty and student leaders, worked with students to conduct research to determine the feasibility of that minor, advised the Elite Owls Leadership and Service Ambassadors, served as Program Coordinator for LeaderShape FAU and LeaderShape South FL and has been involved in grant writing that has resulted in more than a million dollars in funds to support student success, as well as the development of the department, FAU Mentoring Project (still in existence at FAU).  Katie also pioneered the merge when the Volunteer Center came together with LEAD to become the Weppner Center for LEAD and Service-Learning and served as its first assistant dean.

As a first-generation college student, she completed her undergraduate career not knowing she’d not only start, but also conclude her doctoral work successfully in December 2017.  She has two master’s degrees and an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice.  She is associate graduate faculty at FAU and has taught multiple courses in the Leadership Studies Minor and within graduate programs in the College of Education.  She is a certified facilitator of the Student Leadership Challenge™ and produces trainings, along with other leadership development material to a wide range of audiences.  She is the inaugural chair of the First and Proud Alumni Network at FAU and teaches group fitness class at FAU Campus Rec and with barre3 Boca Raton.  Katie serves in the fraternity and sorority community as an Area Facilitator for Area II with Alpha Xi Delta and recently served as Chapter Advisor for the Theta Iota Chapter.  Katie and her husband live in Boca Raton with the two fantastic fur babies, Charlie and Franklin.
