Presenter Bio - Janice DeMonsi

Janice DeMonsi is currently the Director of Recreation at Santa Clara University. She is also the administrator and manager of youth programs and summer campus ensuring safe, engaging, compliant, and developmentally appropriate experiences for minors visiting her campus.
Since June 2002, Janice has served in this role, providing leadership and oversight for a comprehensive campus recreation program that serves thousands of participants annually. A significant component of her role has been the administration and management of youth programs and summer camps, ensuring safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences for minors.
Over the past two decades, she has built and expanded a professional recreation department while overseeing the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of more than 200 student employees each year. Her responsibilities include developing policies and procedures, implementing risk management protocols, ensuring compliance with federal, state, university and youth protocols, and fostering a culture focused on participant safety and positive youth development.
As programs have grown, DeMonsi has successfully adapted operations to meet increasing demand while maintaining high standards of care and supervision. She works closely with staff to provide comprehensive training in child safety, emergency response, behavioral management, customer service, and program delivery. Her experience includes coordinating large-scale recreational and educational programs, managing budgets, overseeing facility operations, and collaborating with campus and community partners to support successful youth programming.
Under her leadership, the recreation department has expanded staffing, increased program offerings, and enhanced operational efficiency. These efforts have enabled the department to provide enriching experiences for participants while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, accountability, and inclusion. She has also led initiatives to improve participant registration systems, staff development, and program assessment to support continuous improvement.
Throughout her career, DeMonsi has remained dedicated to creating positive recreational experiences while fostering environments where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. Her leadership, commitment to youth safety, and focus on staff development continue to support high-quality programs that positively impact participants, families, and the broader community.
