Presenter Bio - Josh Oakland
Josh Oakland currently serves as the Associate Director of Student Outreach & Support at the Colorado School of Mines.
As the Associate Director of Student Outreach & Support he works one-on-one with students to provide tailored case management support and provide high-level support for students of concern. His role involves Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) administration, threat assessments and oversight of case management staff. Josh also oversees the operations of Blaster’s Basket, the community food pantry at Colorado School of Mines.
Josh has been working in higher education for over a decade, with experience in residential life, community standards & conduct, students of concern/case management, behavioral intervention, and basic needs support. His educational and career journey demonstrates a commitment to personal development, holistic student support & innovative collaboration.
Josh’s previous roles at California Polytechnic State University- San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), California State University, Chico (Chico State), & Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) demonstrate a wide range of student support and development experiences. At Cal Poly, in addition to building and staff supervision, he co-taught a career development course for sophomores and collaborated with the Dean of Students office to provide follow-up for students in mental health crises. At Chico State, he worked in a conduct role with a focus on holistic well-being and personal accountability. While working at MSU Denver during the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided case management and basic needs support to students and families.
Josh earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology & Neuroscience from Regis University and a Master of Arts in Student Development Administration from Seattle University with a focus on student leadership identity development.
