Headshot of Melanie CormioMelanie Cormio currently serves as the Director of Career Education & Coaching at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Career Center.

In her role, she provides forward-thinking program development and hands-on leadership across student-facing career services, ensuring that students and alumni are well-prepared to secure meaningful internships, employment, and graduate school opportunities. She oversees key functional areas including career assessments, career courses, workshops, individual coaching appointments, and the development of career readiness content and training.

Melanie brings extensive teaching experience, having instructed SLS 1301: Career & Life Planning for eight years. She also played a pivotal role in launching SLS 4342: Professional Development in partnership with the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters. This course is designed primarily for upper-division students in Professional Studies or Interdisciplinary Studies, though it is accessible to learners across disciplines with permission.

A Certified Master of Career Services (CMCS), Melanie holds a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University and a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Florida Gulf Coast University. She is actively engaged in the profession through leadership and service, including roles on the Florida Career Development Association board and the National Career Development Association credentialing commission.

Melanie is a frequent presenter at regional and national conferences, as well as webinars, where she shares best practices and innovative approaches to career education and coaching. Her work emphasizes scalable, student-centered strategies that drive measurable outcomes and enhance institutional impact.
