Headshot of Peter Trentacoste

With a career spanning two and a half decades, Pete Trentacoste serves as the Executive Director of Residential Life at Louisiana State University, where he provides strategic leadership for programs and operations that enhance the residential student experience. In an era of increasing digital polarization, Pete has dedicated significant focus to the evolving role of the student affairs professional as an institutional representative. His session on the pragmatic approach to social media challenges the field to move beyond basic branding and instead embrace a strategy of professional stewardship. He provides "real talk" for professionals at all levels—from graduate assistants to senior executives—regarding the diminishing returns of daily self-promotion and the very real consequences of digital oversharing in a "fishbowl" environment. Pete’s sessions provide actionable frameworks for mitigating political risk and maintaining an effective, neutral public persona.

Prior to LSU, Pete spent nearly a decade at Ohio University as Executive Director of Housing & Residence Life, where he notably increased departmental reserves from $4 million to $60 million and oversaw the largest construction projects on campus since the 1970s. His background includes a unique blend of high-stakes facilities management, such as leading over $430 million in capital improvements, and serving in senior leadership roles like Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs.

Pete’s commitment to the field is further reflected in his scholarly contributions, including research on the career planning of residence hall directors and financial lessons for student services. He has served as a faculty member for the National Housing Training Institute and the GLACUHO Mid-Level Institute. Pete is an alumnus of Bloomsburg University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Ohio University, focusing his doctoral work on Higher Education. In addition to his university service, he participates in national expert networks as a consultant on student housing strategy
