Ricky LaFossee Esq. is currently the Associate Director for Compliance and Policy  at the University of Michigan’s Center for Academic Innovation.

In this role he provides compliance guidance and supports policymaking efforts relating to online degree programs and open learning experiences, interstate education, and educational technologies. His responsibilities include developing compliance resources and procedures and collaborating with academic and administrative units across U-M to mitigate risk while supporting continued innovation in a highly complex regulatory environment. Ricky also represents U-M as a State Authorization Network (SAN) Coordinator and supports broader distance education policymaking efforts as a member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Policy Committee.

Prior to his role at U-M, Ricky was a compliance consultant for the Office of Online Education at Indiana University while also working towards a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and teaching courses on education law and ethics. While in law school, he interned with Indiana University’s Office of the Vice President and General Counsel and with the U.S. Court of Appeals, Third Circuit. Ricky taught middle-school English for three years prior to entering law school.
