Presenter Bio - Tatyana Kleyn
Tatyana Kleyn is Professor of Bilingual Education & TESOL at The City College of New York. She received an Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University in International Educational Development with a focus in Bilingual/Bicultural Education. Tatyana is Principal Investigator for the City University of New York – Initiative on Immigration and Education (CUNY—IIE, pronounced ‘eye’), funded by the New York State Education Department.
Tatyana is also co-Principal Investigator of the Building Secondary Educator and Administrator Leadership (B-SEAL) for Multilingual Learners, a professional development grant program funded by the US Education Department. She served as president of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education and was a Fulbright Scholar in Oaxaca studying cyclical migration between the US and Mexico. Tatyana has authored numerous books, chapters and articles on immigration, translanguaging, and bilingual education. Her latest edited book about a New York City public school she co-founded is called Lessons from a dual language bilingual school: Celebrando una década de Dos Puentes Elementary (with Hunt, Jaar, Madrigal & Villegas). Tatyana is also the author of Living, Learning and Languaging Across Borders: Students Between the US and Mexico, where she collaborated with photographer Tim Porter to not only share the words but also images of transborder students and families. Tatyana also believes in creating multimodal resources such as documentaries, curriculum and educator guides that can be accessed by diverse audiences. Her work in film as a producer and director includes the Living Undocumented Series, Una Vida, Dos Países: Children and Youth (Back) in Mexico, Supporting Immigrants in Schools and the Not Too Young video series.
