Develop a Plan to Address Accommodation Requests & Train Your Event Staff
Worry less about potential disability discrimination complaints by crafting a comprehensive training program for event staff assisting the admission and screening of guests attending public events on campus. Help staff understand when and how to modify screening procedures for guests with disabilities (including clear bag policies) and how to address guests with animals at public events (service animals, service animals in training, assistance animals and personal pets).
Join us on March 11, 2025, when our expert presenter will draw from more than 25 years of experience as a Disability Resources Professional and a private consultant to offer practical insight and strategies for creating a reasonable accommodation process for public events, allowing more individuals with disabilities to attend events on your campuses. Additionally, by establishing a set process for reviewing accommodation requests, staff will understand when/how to say no to an accommodation request on-site. These conversations can often be uncomfortable if not thought through before the event date and may lead to complaints of disability discrimination, if not handled with care and with appropriate due diligence.
Topics Covered
Gain crucial, actionable takeaways that will help you:
- Develop a plan to address accommodation requests for public events (which often take place after traditional business hours and on the weekends).
- Develop a training plan for event personnel who will be working with guests with disabilities at public events, so they feel more confident and equipped to handle requests and challenges.
- Understand how to say no to an accommodation request that is unreasonable or is a fundamental alteration of the program or event.
- Develop a list of external resources to assist in supporting accommodation requests (live captioning, assistive listening devices, etc.).
- Create an accessibility champions program across campus communities for those departments who routinely host external events.
