Data Driven Models That Reduce Risk & Improve Care for Students in Crisis

Campus law enforcement officers are often the first to respond when students experience a mental health or behavioral health crisis. These complex calls require officers to balance immediate safety concerns with the need for compassionate, informed intervention—often without the specialized resources needed to address underlying behavioral health challenges.

Co-responder programs offer campuses a collaborative approach that brings law enforcement and behavioral health professionals together to provide more effective, timely and appropriate responses.

Join us on December 3, 2026, as an experienced campus safety professional shares how she developed and implemented a Co-Response Team Model at the University of Florida Police Department. Drawing on her expertise in Psychological First Aid and Crisis Intervention Team Training, she will explore the model’s development, implementation, outcomes, and the data used to demonstrate its value and support continued investment.

• Differentiate response models to distinguish a co-responder model from “first responder” or “community responder” models, including the different professional partnerships involved. 
• Identify key considerations for developing a campus co-responder program, including how to adapt the model to their unique campus environment rather than simply replicating a community-based program based on existing resources, needs, structure and response patterns.

Dr. Meggen Tucker Sixbey is the Assistant Director at the University of Florida’s Police Department, overseeing the Behavioral Services Division which includes mental health support team of clinicians who respond with law enforcement officers to calls that are determined to present as mental health related. She is one of 12 Clinical-Law Enforcement learning site partners who were selected by the Bureau of Justice Administration’s Council for State Governments to provide content expertise in informing law enforcement-mental health collaboration policies and procedures nationally.
