Description
Train Faculty & Staff to Handle Disclosures with Confidence & Compliance
Faculty and staff may be placed in a position where a Title IX incident is disclosed. These can be tough conversations, for sure, not only due to the information being shared, but also due to reporting obligations. Adding to the discomfort is that the student may or may not be aware that the faculty or staff member is required to report that information to a Title IX coordinator. It’s cumbersome and tricky for faculty and staff to navigate, wanting to be as supportive as possible, while still ensuring obligations are being met.
Join us onwhen our expert presenter – Pam Peter, Title IX Coordinator for Students and the Director of Student Title IX Case Management at Syracuse University – will help faculty and staff navigate these challenging conversations, overcoming the confusion about what to say and do including how to manage requests for confidentiality, and how to share information in a way that is helpful and empowering, rather than directive, victimizing, and disenfranchising.
Participants will walk away with clear expectations for their reporting obligations, both regarding institutional compliance and the intersections with state law; empowering strategies for responding to disclosures; and how to manage requests for confidentiality. Help eliminate common mistakes and build confidence in responding when students disclose incidents.
Case studies and tabletop exercises to help faculty and staff become comfortable with response techniques will be included throughout this training session.
