Overcome Confusion, Increase Understanding & Help Navigate Complexities
Explore the Challenge:
Navigating the complexities of responding to Title IX incidents can be difficult for even the most seasoned faculty, staff or administrator. It has been made increasingly challenging given the changes to federal law. Institutions must respond appropriately to incidents with a balance of care for students and the mandate to follow the appropriate requirements.
How do we ensure that we are following all applicable regulations while also making sure we treat students with care and equity?
Join our expert presenter – Pamela Peter, the Title IX Coordinator for Students and Director of Student Title IX Case Management at Syracuse University – who will use tabletop exercises to explore and understand the complexities of Title IX compliance. Participants will engage in discussions regarding real-life situations involving gender discrimination in academic and non-academic settings, handling complaints of sexual harassment, responding to requests for academic modifications for pregnancy, and addressing incidents of sexual orientation discrimination.
By the end of the session, attendees will have a clearer understanding of their responsibilities under Title IX and be better equipped to foster an inclusive and equitable educational environment while keeping the care of students at the forefront of their work.
Overcome the Challenge:
Participants will gain crucial, actionable takeaways that will help them:
- Deepen their knowledge of Title IX, but also enhance their problem-solving skills and ability to comply with Title IX in practical, everyday contexts.
- Understand the changes to Title IX and how those changes can impact their response to incidents of sexual and relationship violence.
- Explore different tools that can be used for reporting, responding to complaints and for providing pregnancy modifications.
- Gain strategies for reporting, as well as providing resources and supportive measures to students to help ensure compliance and adherence to regulations.
