The Center for Purposeful Work at Bates College (ME) helps students find internships, jobs and careers, yet there’s also much more to it. It focuses on the liberal arts mission of preparing students for lives of meaningful work, has curricular and co-curricular aspects and takes a four-year developmental approach to working with students.
The Center’s four key characteristics are:
- It is mission-based
- It is developmental in its approach, encompassing cycles of exploration and reflection
- It’s holistically focused on the whole person, weaving purposeful work concepts into all aspects of the student experience
- It’s highly intentional and pragmatic, allowing students to get deeply involved in work in its many forms
