Colgate University (NY) made a Poetry Machine – an old capsule machine with 10 different poems inside – available on campus and around town during April’s National Poetry Month. The machine dispensed free poems by poets all having a connection to the Adirondack region or to nature. The goal of this initiative? Encouraging people to read more poetry.
The Poetry Machine was posted in the campus library for a bit, encouraging over 100 users to browse the university’s collection of poetry books. It then moved to the public library, local establishments and Colgate’s Upstate Institute.
The effort was a collaboration among Colgate’s Upstate Institute, the University Libraries and the Adirondack Center for Writing. Read more about it here.
