This summer, 1,000 grandparents and grandchildren attended Purdue University’s Grandparents University, strengthening intergenerational connections while they learned. During each two-day session, participants got to choose from 32 majors that interested them, attend classes, go on field trips, engage in hands-on learning activities and graduate during a special ceremony.
The Grandparents University website asks, “Build a rocket? Cook inside a Purdue kitchen? Explore a forest? Write a book? Fly a drone? Work with therapy dogs? Create your own hot sauce? Reach inside of a cow’s stomach? There’s something for everyone at Grandparents University!”
The summer sessions are hosted by the Purdue for Life Foundation’s Office of Special Events. The original Grandparents University was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has since spread to other higher education institutions.
