As parts of the United States contend with a winter storm this week, Purdue University’s (IN) Radiological and Environmental Management department offers a simple, effective infographic with Winter Walking Tips to Avoid Slip and Fall Injuries. They include helpful tips such as wearing appropriate footwear, being careful in wet stairwells, wearing gloves so you can keep your hands out of your pockets for better balance, being cautious about giving approaching vehicles extra space to stop, avoiding carrying heavy or awkward loads and more. Self-serve ice melt buckets are also being distributed to buildings.

A two-minute demo video shows some of these winter walking techniques. And members of the campus community are encouraged to contact the Grounds department regarding snow removal so they can coordinate with Building Services.

Good luck in the snow, all! You can find Purdue’s infographic here.
