At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a microphone was placed on campus along with a sign saying: “Tell us something good that happened to you today.” Embracing moments of gratitude, students said things like, “I just pet a dog” and “I got the bus on time today.” These small, simple wins were then turned into a campus video compilation that has been viewed more than 3.4 million times.

UNC social media content producer Andrew Lam created the video, explaining to The Washington Post, “I wanted to create something that reminds people that happiness doesn’t need to be this big life-changing thing; sometimes, it’s just about recognizing the little moments.”

He’s delighted by the response. “The overwhelming positivity has been extraordinary,” he told the publication.

“The takeaway from this video is not the number of likes or views, but really how relatable and authentic it is,” said Riley Phillips, director of social media at the university. “Joy can start somewhere small and grow from there.”
