Once a month, Whole Health Living at Empire State College (NY) offers virtual community cafés that focus on different wellness-related themes. Students, alumni and outside guests are all invited to attend. “We aim to address issues of social justice, diversity, and equity with regards to personal and community health,” their site explains. In 2022 so far, topics include:
- Needs, Wants, and Changing Priorities
- Heartwarming Recipes for Winter Doldrums
- Tapping Into Our Creative Potential
- The Gifts of the Garden: Preparing for a New Harvest – Literally and Figuratively
Special guest speakers and campus community members often present information during these monthly Monday evening cafés. The virtual conversations are designed to “build community and collective wisdom and reinforce relationships developed in the individual residency classes.” Virtual Whole Health Living Residency students – who are offered the opportunity to take courses in a blended-model related to health, wellness and equitable access to health and wellness resources – are required to attend four Spring term cafés.
