Online transactions occur everywhere these days, from Facebook Marketplace to eBay and beyond. Brown University has arranged for a Transaction Safe Space where students and staff can process these exchanges. The front lobby of the campus police station is available for secure transactions, complete with a phone that auto-dials the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Communications Center in case of an emergency.
“If the sale is legitimate, why would anyone not agree to meet at a police station lobby to complete the sale?” asked Sergeant Kelly Mitchell of the DPS Outreach Department. “Consider our location as a safe alternative.”
