Some campuses bring comfort dogs to campus during finals week to reduce stress. Yet, at Delta College’s South Campus at Mountain House (CA), it’s a bunch of hungry goats helping with stress reduction. Nine members of the college’s herd of Boer goats were recently brought in to assist with weed abatement and fire protection while visiting with students, staff and others in between grazing duties.
“The motivation, because we’re going into finals week, is for people to come out and just have a mental health break and see their cute little faces, and just having a space to come and just be for a minute,” Delta College Resource Specialist Heidi Santino told the Tracy Press.
The goats are part of the college’s agricultural program at Manteca Farm. They are a component of the holistic regenerative approach to pasture management, Santino said.
