This summer, in an effort to enhance students’ physical and emotional health, West Virginia University’s Carruth Center and BeWell program have been hosting a series of weekly community walks called “Wake Up and Walk.” Students come together every Tuesday at 9 am to walk about 2 miles as a group, incorporating beneficial movement and connections into their day.

“One of the things that we found after the pandemic is a lot of folks were kind of missing that social connection, and we wanted to develop a program where people could kind of come together and do something that would benefit them both physically and emotionally,” Sara DiSimone, assistant director of Outreach and Campus Engagement at the WVU Carruth Center, told The DA. “So we thought, what better way to do that than to kind of move our bodies together while having conversations with other people, meeting new people, developing connections.”
