The LifePrep@Naz program at Nazareth College (NY) “provides an inclusive college experience for students with intellectual disabilities, strengthening their life skills, vocational skills, self-sufficiency, and independence.” And Nazareth students serve as mentors to the LifePrep students through consistent peer-to-peer interaction, assisting and supporting them in classes, at lunch and during their on-campus vocational experiences.

The LifePrep program is a collaborative effort among the college, a local school district and The Arc of Monroe. Students involved with LifePrep are fully immersed in campus life by being enrolled in a Nazareth course, getting involved in campus clubs and organizations, attending college functions and athletic events, holding a campus internship and participating in Commencement once they’ve completed the LifePrep program.

Students in the LifePrep program and their peer mentors also participate in programs like Naz in Action, a day of service during fall Orientation. The overall LifePrep@Naz program is part of the institution’s Culture, Community and Belonging initiatives.
