Youngstown State University’s (OH) new PENGUINsafe app was developed as a collaboration among the campus police department, information technology department, and office of marketing and communications. It provides enhanced support in conjunction with the campus PenguinAlert system through real-time safety alerts and access to key campus resources.

For instance, 21WFMJ reported, the app offers a panic button so users can send their location in real time to YSU police, a safety toolbox to enhance personal safety in various situations, the ability to send your location and an “I’m OK” message to designated recipients and much more.

"This app reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing campus safety and provides students, faculty and staff with the tools they need to feel secure while on campus or walking between locations," YSU Police Chief Shawn Varso told the station.
