Putting together invited speaker lectures and workshops takes intentional effort. And there are microskills recommended for organizers to use when inviting guest speakers to campus. From researching potential speakers to choosing considerate dates/times, promoting the event, considering social pieces and more, thoughtful campus invitations require deep, caring work by organizers.

Two professors who are also the co-authors of Microskills: Small Actions, Big Impact recommended the following eight microskills for organizers of campus lectures and workshops:

  • Research a potential speaker
  • Choose considerate dates and times
  • Offer compensation
  • Discuss audio/visual needs
  • Promote the event
  • Consider social events
  • Provide feedback and quotes
  • Pay it forward
