The Alma College (MI) Community Music Outreach program is a student-run initiative that offers $5 private music lessons to local students in addition to community events such as an Instrument Petting Zoo and a Music Library. The program’s goal is to build connections and foster creativity while empowering the next generation of musicians. It was founded by student Krysta Bennett and is funded by the Community Foundation.

“Music is wonderful and rewarding, but it can be very expensive,” Bennett told Alma College News. “This is a way for people who are and are not involved with music directly to make an enormous impact on those who would like to be involved, and help make sure local music programs survive and thrive well into the future.”

The program welcomes Alma students from all majors and backgrounds as instructors, event planners and administrators. Any student with a passion for service is invited to contribute to the Community Music Outreach program.
