The Kids on Campus summer program at Ohio University has been offering educational, nutritional and recreational opportunities to underserved local children since 1996. The program partners with campus departments and local organizations to offer hands-on learning that helps participating kids expand their horizons, build new skills and connect with others. A campus Science Van exposes kids to an entire lab, plus they participate in activities like kayaking, ziplining and yoga.

“We’re able to create memorable experiences for campers through hands-on activities like yoga, field trips and STEM exploration,” Dean John McCarthy of the College of Health Sciences and Professions told The Athens News. “By working together with local organizations, this program fosters a spirit of collaboration and enriches our entire community.”

Teens involved with Kids on Campus get to take a campus tour to learn about career opportunities, tour a dining hall and explore hands-on activities through the athletic training program.

To recap the summer, students and their families were invited to view a 14-minute documentary recapping the summer’s events and accomplishments. “It was really fun for all the kids to see themselves on the big screen,” Matt Borror, partnership development coordinator for Kids on Campus, told the paper.
