The new “Jump Start” program at Oregon State University is designed to help international students secure on-campus jobs before they arrive in the U.S. They can work up to 20 hours/week during the term and 40 hours/week during vacations, earning up to $20,000 each year while also gaining valuable work experience, connections and more. Support is provided by the INTO OSU staff that works with international students.
Both graduate and undergraduate international students accepted to OSU were informed of the new program with 140 signing up so far.
"Many on-campus jobs are available for international students who study at Oregon State University,” Edward Feser, OSU's provost and executive vice president, said in a news release. “The jobs provide opportunities for students who come from various countries and cultures to contribute to the campus community and its diversity. Finding and applying for an on-campus job before they arrive in the U.S. is not an easy task for an international student. It requires them to overcome many challenges and learn new skills. I'm delighted the INTO OSU Student Success Services team has introduced this program to help students throughout this process. The team informs students about available jobs and the application steps, and they also prepare them for their first day of work.”
